Why Beets and Babes?

God gave me the greatest gift of being a mommy to our daughter Luci on January 11. When I found out I was pregnant I was in shock, I couldn’t believe my husband and I were going to get to experience this journey. Soon after that shock settled and I realized we were really doing this thing, I was lost.

I was lost because I knew very well how to help adults lose weight, coach on what is healthy vs. what is not, support women with hormone imbalances or thyroid issues, and help heal gut issues.

What I didn’t spend a lot of my career on was kids’ nutrition and what was important at different stages of life to support healthy development. I started doing what I always do, researching at night, walking the aisles in stores to see what is advertised to kids, and talking to my clients/friends who were parents. What I have found is that as mamas we have been misinformed and our kids are a constant target for marketing. Almost every product I picked up marketed to kids in the grocery store contained added sugars, dyes, and a laundry list of unpronounceable ingredients.

Coming from someone who grew up in a household with a family who was always trying to lose weight, and as someone who was overweight as a kid, I wanted something different for my daughter. I had an unhealthy relationship with food and I didn’t love my body for much of my life. I want her to understand that food is meant to nourish our bodies, that it is okay to indulge every now and then and not feel guilty, and that taking care of your body and choosing a healthy lifestyle for it means truly loving yourself. With childhood obesity nearly tripling since the 1970s, and still continuing to rise, I knew we needed to change something.

As parents we are pulled in so many directions and taking the time to research what’s best for our families is often a priority that gets pushed aside. The truth though, is it begins with us and our habits. I know the guilt builds every time we have to run through a drive thru, or give in to our kids wanting their bag of halloween candy because we know offering broccoli instead isn’t going to cut it. My goal is to support you in making healthy work for your family and make it an easier choice. Setting a healthy foundation with nutrition is something our kids will keep their whole life. It is one of the best gifts we can give them.

So, this site is for YOU Mama. As a nutrition and wellness coach I want to be a resource for you. I am going to fill this site with real blog posts about health, life, products I love, and offer services to get “YOU” back and keep a healthy family.
